Write for your Heart

What it wants, needs and deserves

Hello Dear One,

I’m going through a phase of writing more and more. Or journaling. You might think I did that anyway – up at 5 am, diligent as anything - but it’s not quite the truth. I used to say I wrote every morning as, for a long time, I did. I relied on it. Then, life moved.

I’m for this - not confining yourself to a particular pattern because you feel like it’s what you ‘should do’ but tuning in to what feels good, right and helpful. Listening.

Yet I come back and back. Because writing is magic. It soothes your nervous system; forces you to slow down. Your pen can’t go as fast as your mind, so the process is calming. You have to step back and make space for what’s in front of you. What’s on your heart.

The kicker of a question here – for me – is where am I not truly listening to myself? Often, we don’t. What we have to say might be inconvenient. It might not get us where we think we want to go. But ignoring ourselves only causes sadness and trouble. Write it down, even if it feels scary. And I’ll tell you what I tell myself: I’ll never abandon you. Want what you want. I love you. Everything will be ok.
